Commissioner Siebert stated <br />that he has a camera that can be used but he doesn't know if it is compatible <br />with Group W's equi[~ment. <br /> <br />Cxmnissioner Sieber stated that Group W has both Beta and VHS and 1/2" and <br />3/4" discs available. <br /> <br />Co~,issioner Siebert stated that Jerry Jurva has offered the use of his plane <br />for the video taping of the airport tour. <br /> <br />General Discuss]on~ <br /> <br />Chairman Ippel stated that general oomments regarding the Airport Master Plan <br />have been received from Metro Council, the State Department of Transportation - <br />Aeronautical Division, and the Federal Aviat/on Association. FAA is concerned <br />with: 1) lack of expandability of the Gateway site to beco~ a larger <br />airport; 2) Gateway's proximity to a landfill (rule of thumb is that they <br />don't want an airport runway within 5000' of a landfill because of bird <br />problems). Chairman Ippel stated that FAA does realize there are differences <br />involved when it comes to landfill operations and they do review each case <br />individually when there is a landfill involved. Chairman Ipp~l stated another <br />concern as being that Gateway is not included on the National Air Systems Plan <br />nor the Metro Systems Plan. <br /> <br />Chairman Ippel stated that he, Larry Koshak, Merland Otto and Lloyd Schnelle <br />met with Nigel Finney of the Metropolitan Airport Con~ission and they are <br />responding positively to the develoI~ent of Gateway as Crystal Airport has the <br />potential to handle more air traffic but no capability to expand ground <br />services and Anoka County Airport cannot handle any ~Dre air traffic but has <br />capability to expand ground services. <br />capacity for expansion of ground services <br /> <br />Commissioner Sieber stated that he is not convinced Gateway will attract any <br />aircraft, other than recreational, to operate out of Gateway. <br /> <br />Oo~missioner Siebert pointed out that even if Gateway only attracted <br />recreational aircraft, those aircraft also need hangar space and would base at <br />Gateway. <br /> <br />O~missioner Sieber inquired as to how many based aircraft it would take to <br />have Gateway break even cost wise. <br /> <br />Con~issioner Siebert stated that judging from Gateway's past history, it would <br />not be impossible to have 30 based aircraft at Gateway.
