(Duncilm~mber Cox stated that he ~ade it <br />clea_r to Mr. Gilbertson that the first letter delivered calling for a meeting <br />was inappropriate as it had no Council signatures on it; Mr. Gilbertson claimed <br />that the procedure he followed is what his attorney told him to do in response <br />to Mr. Goodrich's directions. Councilmember Cox stated that he doesn't believe <br />Mr. Goodrich would tell Mr. Gilbertson's attorney to do it in the way they did, <br />expecially since there has been s~me recent discussion and clarification <br />regarding the open meeting law. Councilme~ber (Dx stated that there are Ramsey <br />citizens that don' t want to do anything good; they just want to be watchdogs <br />for the oo~munity and try and trip people up- this applies to City Staff and <br />citizens. Oouncilmember Schlueter requested that a vote on the motion be <br />called and stated that if the motion is defeated, she hopes the citizens will <br />pursue the issue on their (~n. <br /> <br />Mayor Heitman restated his motion as follows: <br /> <br />Motion by Mayor Heitman and seoonded by Councilmember Schlueter that in light <br />of the fact that this Council is entrusted with the good faith of the people <br />that elected this Council, an independent attorney be retained to investigate <br />charges brought before this Council regarding a one page letter to J.R. 's <br />Saloon dated June 30, 1985 containing Councilmember Cox's signature with an <br />accompanying cc~ent, Councilme~ber Re/mann's signature with an accompanying <br />comment and Councilmember Sorteberg's signature with no accompanying c0~ment. <br />Further, to set a 1/mit of $500 for attorney fees in this investigation and <br />that the investigation results be brought before this Council at it's next <br />regular meeting. <br /> <br />Further Discussion: Mr. Goodrich stated that this investigation would have no <br />affect as far as the law is ooncerned. Mayor Heitman stated that the <br />information should be gathered and presented. Gouncilm~mber Cox stated that <br />the investigation is a good idea. Mr. Goodrich irguired as to who should <br />select the attorney for the task.
