On March 29, 1985, Agency staff conducted a
complaint investigation and hazardous waste inspection of the Company. The
investigation revealed that the Company is violating numerous State hazardous
waste rules relating to hazardous waste management. The Company has failed to
notify the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of its hazardous waste
activities by obtaining an identification number and has failed to notify Anoka
County as a generator of hazardous waste. These drums had no labels,
were rusty and were stored open on wooden pallets located on an outdoor gravel
based area. The Company has stored wastes which Company representatives
indicated contained freon sludge in another outdoor area. Approximately
55-gallon rusty metal unlabeled drums of the freon sludge are stored on wooden
pallets in a grassy area. All the drums were stored in open areas which did not
have a fence or other means of restricLing access. None of these waste streams
have been evaluated for hazardous properties. Some of these drums have been
,.,t,~re~l outdoors since 1.979..
