I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
!
I

K. .Explore the Need for a Latch Key Program

Since the Latch Key Program is in the developmental/pilot stages, there was
consensus that the task force recommend (through the city council) that the Latch
Key Program be expanded to include Ramsey Community School. Because the
number of two parents working is high and the fact that Ramsey is a K-4 school,
resulted in the Latch Key Program being a high priority.

L. Determine the Need to Explore a Chemical Awareness Program

This was not discussed by the task force other than to continue to support existing
programs and services.

M. Identify the Community School Coordinators Role and Responsibility for Scheduling
~md Coordination Of Cit~, Facilities (pa~ks~ Rinks~. ete)

This item was not addressed by the task force. It is being recommended that the
Park Board and Community School Coordinator discuss this matter and come back to
the city council and advisory council with a recommendation.

SUMMARY:

The recommendation can best be described in three themes.

The first general theme that seems to prevail is a gradual shift from a community school
concept to a community service/human service concept. The advantages of this notion
include:

1. Greater role and emphasis on total coordination and cooperation of all
community service and human service programs and servieeso
2. Greater emphasis on coordination and involvement of the city in the overall
operation of community school.

The second general theme is involving the participant in contributing a greater share in
the cost of programs and activities.

The third general theme is some expansion of service at a reduetion in cost to the city.

As a final footnote, the concept maintains a level of involvement of the school.

5of5
