Industries - Stated that as a homeowner and busines~an
in Ramsey, he thinks that industry feels oomfortable locating adjacent to
airports rather than residential develol~ent.

Councilm~nter Schlueter explained that the Airport Cc~mission is currently
preparing ~ major airport study and until that study is o~mpleted, Council
won't know the costs involved and whether or not industry will come in because
of the airport.

Councilm~nber Cox stated that there are some interesting oonm~nts in Airport
Commission meeting minutes. ~he minutes indicate that one of the
oon~issioners inquired as to how many airport operations are required to
support the facility. That Airport Cc~mission, including that particular
co~missioner, voted to spend $40,000 on a study.

Councilm~mber Cox noted that the study is costing Ramsey $8,000.

Councilm~ber Cox replied that the study is costing s~nebody $40,000.
Councilmember Cox continued that the same oommissioner, who is also chairman
of the Charter Commission, stated that there will be more revenue generated by
business aircraft than recreational aircraft; that commissioner also stated
that the odds are against Ramsey because Ramsey is not a population center,
not accessible to frcc~ays and is on the wrong side of the Mississippi.
Councilma~ber Cox inquired if an airport should be placed in a population
center or should it be placed prior to population concentration; Councilm~mber
Cox noted that Gateway was plaoed prior to any population. Councilme~ber Cox
stated that this same Airport Cxmmission menber stated in the minutes that the
airport could bring in industry that would have the potential for
contamination considering Ramsey's high water table. Councilm~mber Cox
pointed out that the airport is located at the south end of the community,
March 26, 1985
