's request
that the development limititations be lifted and that they be allowed to mine
dirt for oover at the landfill. ~ere were mo Ramsey personnel at the hearing
but some Ramsey citizens did attend. Waste Management's original request was
for 500,000+ cubic yards; when it came to the Enviror~ental Services fk~m~ittee,
they were prepared to deny the request on the grounds that the amount of dirt
would constitute vertical expansion of the landfill amd there is no way that
the County Board or this (~issior~r supports vertical expansion. Before the
vote was taken, Mr. Otter of Waste Management Mended the request to 247,000
cubic yards; no action was taken that night and the request was referred to the
Gouty Health Board. Under State Statutes, the only thing the County is
permitted to look at in this situation is if the mining of that dirt would in
any way de-enhance Site P in terms of being a potential landfill site. It was
determined that the 247,000 cubic yards is enough dirt to oover what is going
to be o~mplebed at the landfill. The request for 247,000 cubic yards came
before the County Board on the morning of August 27.
