I <br />understand that the area proposed for excavation is 4B.4 acres. Since this exceeds <br />the area threshold for an EAW, the question of the need for an EAW hinges on whethe <br />the mean depth will equal or exceed ten feet. Using the area and volume figures <br />you have supplied, I calculate the mean depth as follows: <br /> <br />mean depth = volume of excavation <br /> area of excavation <br /> <br />= 785,0DD (yards)3 X 1 acre X 3 feet <br /> 48.4 acres 4,840 (yard)2 ~ yard <br /> <br />= 785~0D0 X 3 feet <br /> 48.4 X 4,840 <br /> <br />= 10.053 feet <br /> <br />Since this number slightly exceeds ten feet, an EAW is mandatory for the operation <br />as proposed. ~ <br /> <br />Please contact me if you have further questions in this matter. <br /> <br />Sincerely, <br /> <br />--' "-?7 ......
