J3-11~ OFFERED BYCOMM1F~SIONER ~as, Bu~r~n, Lengfeld, Kordiek, ~enaiko, ~cCerron end Erhert RELATING TO AUTHORI2.ATION FOR CREATION OF AN0r~ C~NTY TRAflSPORIAT1ON ADVISORY CC)~I~II'TEE WHEREAS, older people end handicapped individuals within Anoka County have contributed their talents, skills, and experience to our comunity; and, WHEREAS, ~ccess to services end other Coetnuntty resources is vitally important for older persons and handicapped individuals to rmnain as self-reliant as possible while retaining their self-respect and dignity; WHEREAS, Anoka County agencies and older persons involved with the development of the 'Plan for the Service Oelive~ Syste~ for Older People in Anoka County", prepared by the Hetropolitan Council Program on Aging, identified transportation as the greatest umet service need of older people in the County; and, WHEREAS, these Anoka County agencies and older persons ~ere also concerned that spectalJy-equtpped vehicles to serve the handicapped are not adequately available in Uie County; end, WHEREAS, these Anoka County agencies and older persons also felt , that service deliv)ry is difficult in the more rural parts of the County due to inadequate levels of accessible, geographically distributed transportation services; and, W14EREAS, these Anokm County agencies and older persons felt that the highest priority should be given to determining the most economical means of increasing the availabiltty of transportation services for all those who must rely on some tyl)e of accessible public transportation: NC)W, THEREFORE, BE Il RESOLVED by the Anoka County Board of Comisstoners that they do hereby authorize the creation of a County Transportation Advisory Comittee consisting of nine members, with representation from a wide variety of groups including consumers, service providers, transportation experts, elected officials, and businesses who shall be appointed in the following mnner: 1 member to be appointed frown each of the seven County Comissioner Districts. 2 members of the Anoka County Board of Comissioners Chairperson to be appointed by the Chairman of the Anoka County Board of Comissioner~. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that as the first step toward the development of a comprehensive transportation plan designed to.expand and improve the availability of transportation services throughout Anoka Coanty, the Transportation Advisory Con~nittee shall be charged wi-th the follo~ng responsibilities: 1. To identify existing transportation resources for older adults and handicapped tndividaals and to determine those areas of /moka County where such resources are ~st needed.
