J3-11~ <br /> <br />OFFERED BYCOMM1F~SIONER ~as, Bu~r~n, Lengfeld, Kordiek, ~enaiko, ~cCerron end <br /> Erhert <br /> <br /> RELATING TO AUTHORI2.ATION FOR CREATION OF <br /> AN0r~ C~NTY TRAflSPORIAT1ON ADVISORY CC)~I~II'TEE <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, older people end handicapped individuals within Anoka <br />County have contributed their talents, skills, and experience to our <br />comunity; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, ~ccess to services end other Coetnuntty resources is vitally <br />important for older persons and handicapped individuals to rmnain as <br />self-reliant as possible while retaining their self-respect and dignity; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Anoka County agencies and older persons involved with the <br />development of the 'Plan for the Service Oelive~ Syste~ for Older <br />People in Anoka County", prepared by the Hetropolitan Council Program on <br />Aging, identified transportation as the greatest umet service need of <br />older people in the County; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, these Anoka County agencies and older persons ~ere also <br />concerned that spectalJy-equtpped vehicles to serve the handicapped are <br />not adequately available in Uie County; end, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, these Anoka County agencies and older persons also felt , <br />that service deliv)ry is difficult in the more rural parts of the County <br />due to inadequate levels of accessible, geographically distributed <br />transportation services; and, <br /> <br /> W14EREAS, these Anokm County agencies and older persons felt that <br />the highest priority should be given to determining the most economical <br />means of increasing the availabiltty of transportation services for all <br />those who must rely on some tyl)e of accessible public transportation: <br /> <br /> NC)W, THEREFORE, BE Il RESOLVED by the Anoka County Board of Comisstoners <br /> that they do hereby authorize the creation of a County Transportation <br /> Advisory Comittee consisting of nine members, with representation from <br /> a wide variety of groups including consumers, service providers, transportation <br /> experts, elected officials, and businesses who shall be appointed in the <br /> following mnner: <br /> <br /> 1 member to be appointed frown each of the seven County Comissioner <br /> Districts. <br /> <br /> 2 members of the Anoka County Board of Comissioners <br /> <br /> Chairperson to be appointed by the Chairman of the Anoka County <br /> Board of Comissioner~. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that as the first step toward the development <br /> of a comprehensive transportation plan designed to.expand and improve <br /> the availability of transportation services throughout Anoka Coanty, <br /> the Transportation Advisory Con~nittee shall be charged wi-th the follo~ng <br /> responsibilities: <br /> <br /> 1. To identify existing transportation resources for older adults and <br /> handicapped tndividaals and to determine those areas of /moka <br /> County where such resources are ~st needed. <br /> <br /> <br />
