I I I I I I I I I I i I I I I I I I I TO: FROM: RE: DATE: City Administrator City Assessor Monthly Assessing Report March 20, 1985 The 1985 assessment, as far as I know, has been completed. The County is about ready to print new field cards for payable 1986. Hopefully people will check their new valuation notices so if there are any mistakes they can be corrected before they receive their tax statement next year. There was a 1% raise on all homes for payable 1986. However, only houses built from 1981 through 1984 will be affected. The depreciation starts a year earlier, so any house built before 1981 will not change. Some of the flat charges will be elimiated for the 1986 assessment. To compensate the value of these elimiated flats, a small percentage raise will be added to the square foot value of the overall home. The percentage will vary according to the class of house. Starting from the top class, no. 1, down through the eighth class, the percentage raise will be 3%. The next three classes will be 2.% and the following two classes, 1%. The last eight classes will not be raised. The largest percentage of our houses here in Ramsey will fall in the 1 to 2.% bracket. The flats that are still in effect are ones that can be picked up from the exterior of the house. This will help in appraising houses in which we don't have a chance to get inside. There is always a percentage of the tags I leave that never call back for appointments. The Board of Review date has not been set yet. At least I haven't been informed of it. The area that will be viewed for the 1986 assessment is Sections 15 - 24. This will enable me to catch up, so I will have only 25% of the City to view from 1986 on.
