We ca.snot hear Elk River's or .tnoka's. On several oc- casions I have tried to listen for them on the first Wednesday or when announoei locally on television a_nd do not hear a %king. I fuess my concern has become more of a fear, since last July 3, 1983. We !o=* all the shire!es and tarpaper ~ ~, o~ the west side of our home plus some minor structural d~mage to the hous~ itself. Kad I not had a scanner with the weather crystal, I may not have been as prepared as I was., since we did not have the television on nor were we lis%eni~ to the radio that mornir~. I realize the City of Ransey is quite large but I feel the way we are De.e.~e irons ~n the more populated and 6rowing, we should have ~v_l s newer areas, similar to our neighbor Ch~mplin. have noticed ~nanplin has these sirens in their residential areas. mr, not sure ef their farming areas. I do nat know if anyone else in the area feels the wa~-' I do, since t?,ere were only a handful of people who had dmma£e on July 3 or other occasions. With the weather we have had the last couple of years, everytime there is a storm brewi,~43, I ~et rather nervous. Since I have never actually seen a tornado in my life, I do not know if I would know a fumnel cloud fcrming if ! saw it. I believe sirens would be a plus for the area. l'k~s.
