They agreed
to delete the additional holiday but still are requesting the 5% increase in
base pay and $15.00 increase in the City's health insurance contribution. The
City Administrator handed out a chart outlining the police department increases
in other metropolitan cities as compared to Ramsey.

Councilmember Reimann stated that if pay increases for the City of Ramsey
police department continue at the rate they've been going for the past few
years, down the line we won't be able to afford the police department. We have
two officers n~ on probation. Fz~ybe we Gould afford the police department's
demands if we would decide not to hire these two officers when their
probationary period is up. He further commented that a very large portion of
the City' budget is spent on police protection and it's getting more out of
hand every year.

The City Administrator gave examples of increases in other cities and stated
that the situation is going to get worse before it gets better.

Councilmember Reimann said that there is no comparison between Ramsey and other
cities. They' re getting a bigger share of the pie than we are. He went on to
state the percentage increases the police department received in the past few
years and what it Gould end up being this year. He stated that as a citizen
and as a Councilperson, he feels that he no longer has Gontrol over the destiny
of the police department. They're holding a gun to our head - we don't have
any say. They' re getting as bad as the teachers. What one gets the other one
gets.
, !.!, Page I of 3
