Airport Engineer
Aeronautics Division
Room 417
Minnesota Department of Transportation
Transportation Building
St. Paul, MN 55155

Re: Gateway North Industrial Airport

Dear Mr. Nemec:

Enclosed for your information is a plan of an alternative alignment
for Gateway's NW-SE runway. The runway is rotated 13 30'W and shifted
to the SE. This new alignment arises due to the recent availability
of land owned by Prestressed Concrete, now bankrupt. The new
alignment requires the acquisition of three homes to the north instead
of 14 as with the Master Plan alignment. It mgy, however, require the
relocation or acquisition of 15 mobile homes and one conventional home
in safety zone A in the south approach. Further, it eliminates the
need to acquire either Tom Thumb or McGregors' Restaurant.

A quick preliminary estimate indicates that costs for this alignment
would be about the same as the acquisition program outlined in the:
Master Plan.. (The Prestressed Concrete land (75A)and structures are
valued at $1.1 million.) The actual airport property, however, would
be increased to approximately 276 acres, a net gain of about 48 acres.
The enclosed property map illustrates changes required for this
alignment.
