There are several reasons for our stance. We have been residents and
homeowners of the Northfork neighborhood for 20 years and picked this neighborhood specifically for
being a residential neighborhood. It is not an agricultural development and it is not zoned for
agriculture (zoned 1A).
While I can appreciate the fact that the homeowners are attached to their animal, they should not
have had it in the first place and have been out of compliance with the City of Ramsey for nearly a
year. They should not be able to feign ignorance and beg for forgiveness. Instead, they should be
required to comply with the rules the City of Ramsey has set in place, which requires the lot size of
the residence to be at least 3 acres (theirs is not).
It doesn't matter that the lot is a wooded lot; there is no foliage for over half the year and, if this is
approved, it could open it up to other homes in the neighborhood that do not have a wooded lot.
Additionally there are other farm animals (horses, goats, etc) that have rules and regulations around
them by the City of Ramsey, and we certainly don't want to open our neighborhood up to having
those other animals as well.
We appreciate the fact that we have a Homeowners Association that aims to keep guidelines in force
for our neighborhood. And we fully understand that by having a Homeowners Association we may be
under more stringent rules than the City of Ramsey ordinances. The Homeowners Association has
strict rules against farm animals so it would continue to be against the Homeowners Association
i
