DEC 2016
December 6, 2016 `
Ramsey City Council
7550 Sunwood Drive NW
Ramsey, MN 55303
To Whom it May Concern:
Regarding the matter of a Non-Traditional Domesticated Animal License request for 18-32-25-43-0013
15830 Andrie St NW, Ramsey, below are my comments to be considered as part of this matter.
Firstly, I am writing this as a neighbor in close proximity of the requestor; however I wish to remain
anonymous due to ongoing legal issues related to the requestor and our Northfork Homeowners
Association (NFHOA) and its Board of Directors (of which I am NOT a part of) related to animals and
buildings on their property. I want to avoid retaliation by any party who may not agree with my
comments contained within this letter.
My comments and concerns hereafter are in no particular order but are as follows:
1. Regarding the claim of the pot-bellied pig's social, communicative, and intelligence as described
in the requestor's third paragraph. While I agree with many of the comments about the
misconceptions regarding pot-bellied pigs, I have yet to encounter any pet that is actually
"odorless" as they are claiming and I believe any pet will behave as socially and intelligently and
communicate based on how it is raised by its owner and the environment it is living in, dog or
pig. I have yet to find any proven scientific facts that prove pot-bellied pigs are less, equal or
better pets than dogs.Stating that a pig may be a better pet than a dog is only one opinion. I
find this section of their request should be discounted as it is really just conjecture and short on
provable facts.
2. Regarding the requestor's due diligence and research. If you take the provided information at
face value and retrace the same steps... I was able to query the City of Ramsey website for pot
bellied pig and found the information that"pigs" were not allowed. I then followed that up with
the Google search exactly as they indicated, and I too found documentation dated May 2012
and does have the pot-bellied pig exception noted in 10-1(b) (they referenced an attached PDF
to their request that I did not see as part of the included packed from the City).
In the May 2012 document, although it does exempt pot-bellied pigs, it also clearly states in 10-
1, d (2)that: On parcels 0.25 acres(10,800 square feet)to 2.99 acres(130,244 square feet)in
size, a maximum of four(4)animals may be maintained from the following species list:chicken,
duck, turkey, goose, goat and,pot-bellied pig. Since they have of 6 (six) chickens, which already
violated the policy, adding this one pot-bellied pig put them in further violation of the May 2012
document.
