f
3. Regarding the structure and exercise area. While the issues that exist between the Requestor
and the NFHOA are not necessarily of the City's concern, I believe there have been multiple
structures built on the requestor's property without the approval of the NFHOA Architectural
Committee. As stated in the letter, they live on a wooded lot and therefore I personally have no
way to know if these structures have been built according to City and State rules and
regulations, have the proper setbacks, had appropriate permits pulled, been inspected, or if
they could actually be a danger to the pets themselves or nearby residents.
I would respectfully request an inspection of all existing structures for compliance and
cleanliness be completed by the City prior to making a decision on the pig.
4. Regarding the composting. I believe manure is to be properly stored and removed once a week
from the property OR in the case of fertilizer it needs to be turned under ASAP. Composting
means the manure stays for weeks or months while it"cooks". As someone who lives
downwind at times, this really does not appeal to my senses.
grew up on a farm. My closest neighbor was 4 miles as the crow flies. "Running to Town" because we
were out of bread meant you'd be gone for 30-45 minutes. I love all animals. I loved feeding them,
taking care of them, having the responsibility for something... so this,to me has absolutely nothing to do
with how I feel about animals in general or the pig itself. But the fact of the matter is I moved to the City
of Ramsey, specifically the Northfork neighborhood, because I didn't want to live on,or next to, a farm
anymore. I chose my new city and neighborhood carefully. I wanted to live within a community and I
love what this City does for residents and how it is being governed and even developed for the
betterment of the community.
Everyone has the right to own pets, but I am not allowed more than 3 dogs/cats on my 2+acres without
a private kennel license. However I find myself with a neighbor with 6 chickens, a dog, 2 "outdoor" cats
(just learned that one from the included letter), bunnies, and they potentially get to keep a pig and
possibility compost manure. Sadly my bigger concern is that I'll be writing a similar letter in another
year discussing how this pattern of doing and then asking for forgiveness later, now includes a few more
pets and their houses needing permits.
I thank you for considering my comments and concerns in this matter and ask that you deny the request
for the license for the pot-bellied pig.
Regards,
City of Ramsey Resident and Neighbor of Requestor
