(MRT , this letter is to
express our support for the City of Ramsey's bicycle and pedestrian overpass project.
The MRT is a 3,000-mile trail system traversing 10 states, 123 counties and over 400
communities along the Mississippi River. We are n partnership nonprofit organization with a
Memorandum of Understanding with the National Park Sei-vice, US Fish and Wildlife Service
and the Mississippi River Parkway Commission focused on cross promotion of national, state and
community parks, wildlife refuges, and communities, (large and small) in under to elevate the
importance of the Mississippi River as a national treasure. Our focus is on environmental
education, active ft-amsporration, and in particular, facilitating trail connections, as we approach
the 2016 Centennial of the National Park Service.
Complimentary and essential to the above goals, is supporting communities in sustainable
economic development - specifically, trails and bicycle facilities that foster economic
development, tourism, recreational opportunities, environmental awareness and community
development.
The City of Ramsey's proposed bicycle and pedestrian bridge aligns perfectly with the mission of
MRT Inc. with its economic development, tourism potential, and multi-modal connection to the
Mississippi National River and Recreation Area (MNRRA). For this reason, we enthusiastically
issue this letter of support.
The proposed Mississippi Skyway is also included in MKRRA's Alterative Transportation Plan
as a High Priority project. Further, it would seem to be ideally matched with the Federal Lands
Access Program goals for Minnesota. For all of these reasons, MRT Inc. strongly supports the
Programming Decisions Committee;to fund the City of Ramsey's proposal.
Sincerely,
Todd Antoine
MRT Board Chainnan
