TO: City Administrator <br /> <br />FROM: Building official <br /> <br />RE: Accessory Buildings <br /> <br />DATE: September 18, 2978 <br /> <br /> As the above referenced subject has been a matter of concern <br />for sometime, I have been giving it much consideration. It would <br />appear to me that the only appropriate solution to this matter is <br />to base the size of an accessary building on the size of the lot. <br /> <br /> In my opinion it would appear that one percent of the lot area <br />would be a a viable solution to the problem. For example, this <br />would allow an accessory building of about 400 plus square feet on. <br />a one acre lot and 1000 plus square feet on a 2% acre lot.- However,~ <br />the surround.~ng lot sizes should also be 'considered in the granting ' <br />of the permit. If a lot larger than one acre is ~loc~ted'in~what <br />is basically a one acre area, the building size should be limited <br />accordingly. <br /> <br /> In m~ opinion th~s could be handled quite easily administrativly <br />by the zoning officer. Individuals that felt they were treated <br />un£a.frly could appeal the zoning administrators decision to the <br />City Council. <br /> <br /> In conclusion it would be my opinion accessory buildings should <br />be restricted accordingly. <br /> <br />(1) Parcels one acre and under:- 1% of the gross lot'~. <br /> not to exceed 400 sq ft.' <br /> <br />(2) Parcels from one acre to 2.5 acres: 1% of the <br /> gross lot size not to exceed 1000 sq ft. <br /> <br />(3) Parcels over 2.5 acres: 1% of the gross lot area <br /> not to exceed 1500 sq ft. <br /> <br /> This restriction could apply to all except agricultural land <br />where building restrictions would not apply. Agricultural land <br />defined is any parcel 20 acres or larger used primarily for agri- <br />cultural purposes. Except for housing, building permits are not <br />required on agricultural buildings. <br /> <br /> This information is for your information and only one indiv- <br />iduals opinion.
