TO: City Administrator

FROM: Tree Inspector, Bruce Bacon

SUBJ: January Report

DATE: January 19, 1979

There were no phone calls in December or January.

I'm preparing a city map showing the last three years requested field visits.

The Ramsey Tree Inventory also should have a graphic interpretation..
try to have these done by the end of February.

I'll

We are told and I believe it, that oak wilt is easier to control then
dutch elm disease. There are no insect vectors known for oak wilt. Even
though the fungus spores that cause the disease are airborne, a combination
of correct pruning practice (only Nov-Mar; NOT to prune in the warm months
Apr-Oct) and removing the adjoining trees to control the primary means of
spread through overlapping roots.

The Ramsey Tree Inventory shows that our elms are concentrated along both
rivers, 90% of the elms adjoin to Rum and Mississippi Rivers.

Old Business: I haven't heard from the lawyer who requested a copy of one
party's field notes. The last month's report had a carbon copy attached,
and his address. I would like this sent to him.

And a reminder: Mr. Dahlman, the forester who prepared the Ramsey Tree
inventory is willing to come for a question and answer discussion of the
impact of his inventory. Perhaps in March would be a good time, before
the next disease season.

Respectful ly,

Bruce F. Bacon
