The Planning Commission held a Public Hearing on this matter at their regular December 1,2016 meeting and
there were no written or verbal comments received. The City Council introduced Ordinance#17-01 at their
December 13,2016 meeting and it is now eligible for adoption.
Alternatives
Alternative 1: Adopt Ordinance 917-01 amending the sign regulations for the Employment Districts to allow a
second permanent ground sign on parcels with multiple road frontages. There does not appear to be any compelling
reason to have more restrictive standards for the number of allowable ground signs in the Employment Districts
than the Business Districts. The Zoning Code should not be a barrier for those businesses with multiple frontages
that desire to have a second ground sign in the Employment Districts. Staff supports adopting Ordinance 917-01.
Alternative 2: Do not adopt Ordinance#17-01 to amend the sign regulations for the Employment Districts to allow
a second permanent ground sign on parcels with multiple road frontages. There does not appear to be any reason
why the City should have more restrictive standards for the number of ground signs permitted in the Employment
Districts than in the Business Districts. Ordinance 417-01 would create the same allowance for a second ground
sign on parcels with multiple frontages and therefore Staff does not support this alternative.
Funding Source:
This case is being handled as part of Staffs normal duties.
Recommendation:
The Planning Commission recommends adopting Ordinance#17-01.
Action:
Motion to waive the City Charter requirement that the Ordinance be read aloud and adopt Ordinance#17-01
amending Section 117-520 (b)to allow a second permanent ground sign on parcels with multiple road frontages in
the Employment Districts.
Roll Call:
Councilmember LeToumeau
Councilmember Kuzma
Councilmember Shryock
Councilmember Williams
Councilmember Johns
Councilmember Riley
Mayor Strommen
Attachments
Section 117-520 with Redlined Edits
Draft Planning Commission Meeting Minutes Dated December 1, 2016
Draft City Council Meeting Minutes Dated December 13, 2016
Ordinance 417-01
Form Review
Inbox Reviewed By Date
Tim Gladhill Tim Gladhill 01/05/2017 11:21 AM
Kurt Ulrich Kurt Ulrich 01/05/2017 04:17 PM
Form Started By:Chris Anderson Started On:01/04/2017 09:55 AM
Final Approval Date:01/05/2017
