Schnelle, City Administrator

Subject: C.R. #57 and C.S.A.H. #5

Oent] omen:

This will ack~owledge receipt of your letters dated June 14, 1979.

The request for the school crossing signal was discussed at our Highway
Committee Meeting on June 18, 1979. The Committee directed Staff to update
our traffic a~d pedestrian data to see what changes, if any, have occurred
since the school zone traffic study was completed in 1976. We will then report
back to the Committee regarding appropriate action to be taken.

Concerning the condition of the railroad crossing, we suggest that you
contact the Burlington Northern. We attempt to maintain the area adjacent
to 'the-tracks. The space between, however is theirs.

The heavy traffic on the railroad causes settlement of the tracks and
the railroad company raises the ~racks every other year. At these times we
work with them to match grades. In the ~nterim periods, it is not a problem
that we can solve alone.

Should you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact
our office.

Very/J~/hly yours,/

Paul K.
