SPECIAL MEETING CITY OF RAMSEY ANOKA COUNTY STATE OF MINNESOTA Pursuant to due call and notice thereof the City Council of the City of Ramsey held a special meeting on September 10, 1979, at the Ramsey Municipal Center, 15155 Nowthen Boulevard N.W., Ramsey, Minnesota 55303 Members Present: Mayor Gamec Councilman Cox Councilman Mickelson Councilman Reimann Councilman Sorteberg Also Present: Administrator Schnelle Engineer Raatikka Attorney Goodrich Mayor Gamec called the special meeting to order at 7:04 P.M. and led the Pledge ofAllegiance to the Flag. He stated the purpose of the meeting is to discuss the acquiring a larger airport facility in the City of Ramseywith the State Department of Aeronautics. Mr. Jim Fortman andMr. Dean [arson were present representing the State Agency. Mayor Gamec reported that the City has had previous discussions on the airport situation, and it is evident that the present airport will have to be relocated. The Council is seeking information on what has to be done to relocate and keep the airport in operation. Mr. Fortman stated that something on the order of the previous study on the existing site would have to be done. Mayor Gamec said indications the City has received is that it cannot keep the airport at the present site and still be eligible for Federal funding because the site is not large enough. He asked if there is any funding . that could be used to conduct the necessary study. b~. Fortman replied yes, it would be similar to the previous study, the City should try for State funding becaUse Federal funding takes' so long, the State funds 80 percent and 20 percent is paid by the municipality. Councilman Cox gave recognition to Mr. Greenberg and Mr. Peltzer, who were present in the audience and who have an interest in the airport. He stated that the present airport facility is located by the TEC Center and that flight instruction programs are given' at the airport in conjunction with the school and that the airport is a viable part of this community and its lifestyle. Mr. Greenberg said the ai_rport was started to promote the industrial area. There are five Planes based heTM at present which are Used for business on a regUlar basis. There are three'salesmen, one Construction company and one doctor. The' Economic DevelOpment Committee is attempting to find a new site to locate the airport due to the fact that the approach areas are not long enough to qualify the Present site for Federal funding.
