Ben Deemer added that now everyone has a park in their yard and that
neighborhood parks may be necessary after sewer and water is in when
the lot sizes are reduced.

Gerald Zimmerman stated that it would be nice to have the land set
aside but that the City has a need for the money now to work with the
parks presently owned.

Ben Deemer commented regarding the housing issue and stated that' he
has contacted the census bureau and they are forwarding current census
data.

Chairman Peterson spoke on the issue of the amount of Industrial land
needed in the City and whether too much is zoned Industrial.

Gerald Zimmerman feels that it is adequately zoned at present and
should rema.in as is. Mayor Gamec has commented that he feels the
City needs the industrial .land for tax base. The argument on the other
side of this issue is that if there is too much and development-occurs
spread out, and there are areas' that remain open inbetween developments
that when sewer does become available it will not be economically feasible
to bring it into the City. It may be best to keep the industry more
concentrated.

Gerald Zimmerman pointed out that rising energy costs are one reason
for keeping the Industrial land as is because it is very costly for
persons living in this area to drive to minneapolis, for example, to
work.

Chairman Peterson requested that Mr. Marston define exactly what the
land use will do for the City, and explain how it differs from the
zoning classification etc.

Kathleen Schneider commented regarding_Industry and Commercial~areas-
in the City. She said in__relation to low cost hosing, if'theCity~is to
make this type of housing available then they should offer along with it
a means whereby the persons living in the housing can afford to keep it
up.

Transportation Plan

Gerald Zimmerman said that the discussion on transportation plan~ always

refer to local and collector streets and doesn't mention Highway 10,
signalization etc., and this is where there is a real problem, hazardous
situations, where fatalities'have occurred.

Discussion was held regarding signalization plan for Highway 10 and that
sone is supposed to have been done, staging, etc.
-- ' - -
'k~,..~'~ Discussion was held concerning the "s" curve on Highway 47. The Commissioners
felt that there should be some input from the City of Anoka, County of Anoka
and State Highway Department regarding a solution to this problem and that
this "s" curve affects the traffic flow in and out of the City of Ramsey.

op
10/16/79 Pg. 2
