C 0 U N TY OF ANOKA

COURTHOUSE ANOKA, MINNESOTA 55303 612-421-4760
November 23, 1979

MEMO TO: Anoka County Mayors and Township Chairpersons

FROM: Sam Walz, Director of Planning and Evaluation, Acting
County Energy Assistance Coordinator

SUBJECT: Follow-up Request from Governor's Office

Approximately two months ago a request went out from the
Governor's Office asking each city and township to designate
an emergency housing shelter in their community. Apparently
a number of Anoka County municipalities did not receive that
request.

I, therefore, am enclosing the original request sent by the
Governor and'asking that your municipality designate an
emergencz housing shelter(s) at this time. Please forward
t:he requested information, including the phone number and
contact person with whom arrangements can be made to use the
designated shelter, to the County Sheriff with a copy to me.

As you may be aware, the County has established an Energy
Assistance Office. The Energy Assistance Office will
coordinate the various energy assistance programs within the
County. Low income County residents needing financial
assistance with their home heating bills should be referred
~o the Energy Assistance Offices which are located at the
Courthouse and our Columbia Heights Office. A third office
will be established at Riverwood School in Fridley after'
January 1, 1980.

As the governor requested, we have designated a 24-hour
emergency phone referral number. It will be the County's
general emergency number "427-1212".

I would appreciate receiving the requested information as
soon as possible. If you have questions, please contact me
at 421-4760, extension 1219.

SW:cg
Attachment

Thank you,

Sam Walz
Acting Energy Assistance
Coordinator

Affirmative Action / Equal Opportunity Employer
