<br />SECTION III <br /> <br />COMMUNITY OVERVIEW <br /> <br />The City of Ramsey was incorporated in November of 1974. <br /> <br />At the present time, it is essentially a residential community. <br /> <br />Commercial and industrial land uses exist only on the southern <br /> <br />boundary of the community near the City of Anoka and in <br /> <br />relationship to the railroad trackage and trunk highway MTH #10. <br /> <br />Retail shopping and personal service facilities are virtually <br /> <br />nonexistent. <br /> <br />population of the City has nearly tripled since 1970. <br /> <br />The 1970 census population was 2,727. Some population was <br /> <br />lost due to detachments of area to the City of Anoka and <br /> <br />realignment of the eastern boundary of the community to <br /> <br />coincide with the Rum River. The current population estimate, <br /> <br />April 1, 1975 by the Metropolitan Council, is 6,987 persons. <br /> <br />The explosive growth between 1970 and 1973 has resulted in <br /> <br />approximately one-third of the total area of the City being <br /> <br />classified as urban residential according to definitions in the <br /> <br />Metropolitan Council development framework. The urban density <br /> <br />developments exist at random throughout the City. It is <br /> <br />apparent that these developments have been located principally <br /> <br />as a result of readily accessible and developable land during <br /> <br />the high demand period immediately preceding enactment of the <br /> <br />il <br />q <br /> <br />current subdivision ordinances in 1973.
