PARK PLAN PROPOSALS

The remainder of this plan is an explanation of proposals for park/
recreation sites. In some instances a policy decision has been made
concerning the acquisition of some sites, although the land has not
been defined specifically or purchased at this time. To properly
locate many of the proposed park sites, attention must be given to
the problem of planning an adequate system of collector streets and
residential streets. Suggested street alignments indicated in the
plan were based on considerations of: (1) service area, (2) property
lines, (3) topography, and (4) basic planning principles of street
design. Precise street locations are subject to further engineering
studies.

In all instances where the calculated space need was less than the
recommended minimum, the latter was used. When possible, and without
over-extending the service area unreasonably, one large site has been
recommended for an area rather than two smaller ones of the same
general area. This is based on the belief that a single, better de-
veloped and more economically maintained facility will result in
better, more efficient use.

One of the primary considerations in selecting specific park sites
was the physical feature of a site. In most cases, the sites are
well drained and would require little fill. In future years,
if feasible, it would be very advantageous to reclaim the sanitary
landfill as a large community or regional recreation site.

Several existing sites have no shade trees or landscaping, and if
such a site is indicated for park use it should be assumed that neces-
sary landscaping of the sites is recommended. However, this can be
accomplished at the site development stage.

Because of the many instances of park sites directly abutting res-
idential property, it is suggested that screen plantings of evergreens
and other trees be made along these boundaries. This will effectively
control activities within the site, would require very little main-
tenance, and it would add beauty to the neighborhood.

Plan Proposals

Ford Brook Park - also A-1

Located in the Northeast corner of Ramsey, this 3.6 acre park is
accessible only by 180th Avenue N.W. It is proposed that this site
be enlarged with Lots 1-3, Block 9 of the FORD BROOK ESTATES ADDITION
(which the site is in). This will allow for additional access from
Erkium Street N.W., additional open space, and it will not suffer
from the eventual development and abutting property lines.

- 20 -
