Biking is becoming the biggest alternative to
short distance motoring, and in the near future it may overtake motor-
ized vehicles for the short distance jaunt, shopping trip or as a
way to reach our recreation sites.

Trott and Ford Brook Trails

It is also proposed that a 9.5 mile multi-purpose trail system be
acquired and developed. Trott Brook, running about eight miles east-
erly from Elk River to the Rum River, is proposed as one in which
a minimum of 100' of good usable land be acquired on each side of
the Brook for its entire length. Ford Brook, running about 1½ miles
southerly from Burns Township to Trott Brook, is the other trail
proposed and would be similar to Trott Brook--with acquisition of
100' on each side for its entire length. This is a great natural
feature of Ramsey and should not be exploited by developers or others,
but preserved for all the residents to use. The trails would support
hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, and possibly
snowmobiling. In addition, the trails would be connecting several
park sites, thus creating a true park system.

- 26 -
