PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION Regular Meeting of April 19, 1979 Members Present: Doris Irvine, John Lichter, Dennis Donovan, Sam Walz Others Present: Charles Noel, Janice Johnson, Dick Swanson, Ed Klemish, Merle Mevissen, Tom Gamec The meeting was brought to order at 7:20 P.M. The minutes of March 15, and March 29, 1979 were approved. The motion was made by Walz and seconded by Irvine. Charles Noelof the Three Rivers Soccer Association appeared and inquired about parks that could be used for soccer games. The association will set up goal equipment. The sonsensus of commission members was that Riverwood #2 or Ford Brook parks could be used for soccer games. Both Janice Johnson, 17915 Tonto St N.W. (753-3224) and Dick Swanson, 5841 160th Lane N.W. (427-3749) were interviewed for vacancies on the commission. Considerable discussion followed governing the status of Kevin Wolter on the commission. Recommendations for appointment were tabled until later in the meeting. Ed Klemish, 16921 Sodium St N.W. ~421-2101~ appeared and presented approval for a 33.3 acre development consisting of 15 single family dwelling units and 8.5 acres of park adjoining Trott Brook. TSe sketch plan was dated 4/11/79. The project is located north of Shady Lawn Estates. A motion was made by Walz, seconded by Lichter that the plan be accepted with the stipula- tion that all lot lines terminate a minimum of 100 feet from the center line of Trott Brook. Motion passed 3 votes to one: Irvine opposed. Merle Mevissen appeared and provided a list of park equipment both short and long range. The equipment included: 1). Tractor with a loader 2)'. Rear mounted mower 3). Full time maintenance person 4). 4 wheel drive pickup with plow' 5). One ton truck with dump box and hoist 6). Snow blower or tractor with blower. Merle commented that th~ broom acquired last year works well with light snow but won't move heavy snow. He also mentioned that Wilbur Chapman currently provided all mowing equipment for the park maintenance.. Tha first quarter financial statement was distributed with an outline of a proposed five year Parks and Recreation Capital Improvement Plan. Commission members were requested to review-th~se items and Merle~s equipment requirements. for the next meeting. Tom Gamec appeared and a joint meeting between the Council, the Planning and Zoning commission and the Park and Recreation cu.w~ssion followed. This s~g- gestion was well received by the commission members in view of recent misunder- standings over the Sorteberg development and the taking of road right of way in lieu of Park Land or monies.
