April 24, 1979 <br />7:30 P.M. <br /> <br />The Ramsey Economic Development Committee met at the above time and date <br />at the Ramsey Municipal Center. <br /> <br />Members present: Councilman Cox.Chairman~ Robert Muller, Boyd Hansen, <br />Mr. Greenberg, Theresa Henderson, Roger Meyer. <br /> <br />Others in attendance: Lloyd G. Schnelle, Bill Bennett, Minnesota DOT <br />Aeronautics; Gregory Felts, Minnesota DOT Aeronautics; Joe Sentyrz, Ron <br />West, Jack Menkveld, Roger Erickson, Dick Blomquist, Michael Kovar, <br />Sherwin Schenk, R. A. Peltzer, Bob Pederson, Minnesota DOT Planning <br /> <br />Mr. Cox opened the meeting with the Pledge of ~lliganee. to the Flag. <br /> <br />Mr. Cox asked Mr. Bill-Goodrich to address the Co~nission how the Economic <br />Development Commission operates in the City of Coon Rapids. He stated <br />that in that City they formed a non profit Corporation which is known as <br />the Coon Rapids Economic Development Commission. This Commission raised <br />$21,000 from the business community in Coon Rapids. He further explained <br />how through the $21,000 the Coon Rapids Economic Development Commission <br />raised they were able to obtain other federal grants to assist in bring- <br />ing in new business and also enlarge old businesses. Mr. Goodrich also <br />explained the administrative workings of the Coon Rapids Economic Develop- <br />ment Commission. He further explained that a Mr. John Rank and Mr. <br />Mulvaney put the Coon Rapids Economic Development Committee non profit <br />corporation together. The Commission requested that it should have either <br />Mr. Mulvaney or Mr. Rank present at their next meeting. <br /> <br />AIRPORT <br /> <br />Mr. Cox opened the discussion on the airport and turned it over to Mr. <br />Greenberg. Mr. Greenberg gave a brief history on the airport. He stated <br />the present airport has grown faster than had been expected at the time <br />it was developed. Mr. Greenberg said the airport is presently large <br />enough for what it is currently being used for but it does not meet the <br />criteria for federal funding. <br /> <br />Mr. Bill Bennett, Minnesota Department of Transportation Aeronautics <br />Division stated the current study on the present airport did show it <br />would not meet the criteria for FAA funding. He stated that if the air- <br />port did expand it would require the closing of Armstrong Blvd. or <br />Industrial Blvd. N.W. <br /> <br />Mr. Jack Menkveld stated that Sherburne County is planning to rezone land <br />adjacent to General Mills which could have a direct effect on the General <br />Mills property being used as a proposed airport. <br /> <br /> <br />
