Gallagher - what is the depth of the monitoring wells?

Mr. Otter - 10 to 15 feet below highest known ground water level which is
about 32 feet.

M. Gallagher - asked about the well on the northwest side, nitrates now that are
traceable in it.

Mr. Otter - recent hydro-geologic tests, passed on ground water flow, there
were some nitrates in the well. The ground water flow~to the southwest
gradient and it can be affected by several different things.

M. Gallagher - Is there a big change in this well?

Mr. Otter - He turned this question over to Anoka County and S{ate because they
have charted water quality of that well.

Mr. Hutchison - the nitrate that was present tn that well Yarl'ed from ~3 mill i~
grams' per liter-.to a high of'.20 '%n.Januar~ of.th~'.year ~ ~n April Ct was
down to 6.8.~ These wells are installed only for'-purpose'of..'~onl'tortng fl.'rst
ground water encountered. The sample Comes~ight off the'topi It do'ntt
necessarily mean it ts comtng from'the landfill, Sulfer tn the~well system
creates a routine .egg smell.

Mr. Sha - suggests disinfecting the well once a ~ear to get r%d of the black
water.

Mr. Hutchison.-this problem doesn't neces~ari]jr have to. De~related to the
landfill it can even be found tn muni,c$,pal ~ells,.' ~ ~

M. Gallagher - asked if the'swamps ~ere tested?

Mr. Knudson (DNR) said he did not test the'swamps_but PCA may have tested
wetland area~. He has observed Woodduck,'and Mallard on~s~ramps nearest t~e
landfill.

Mr. Hutchison - data was g(ven, to Mr. Sba, so many tbings that can happen to the
swamp unrelated to the l'andftll, e~er~ year there has 'been'at least one'
family of ducks there, he never sa~a.dead duck,-

M. Gall.agher - asked if they could request that the'swamps be tested at least
once a year.

Mr. Knudson said the swamps get runoff from places' other than the'landf%ll
and tf there was any pollution they, would have to find .where %t.'S cOmtng
from, but it is a good idea to che6k tt periodically,

The citizens did not feel eno. ugh testing is beilng done, t~ere are contaminates
that could filter into the water'systems.

Mr. Otter - there are two ground water ltsymeters test tubes in the ground to
determine what would be leachi~ng throug~ the groUnd. These'have 5een concerns
of the regulatory .agencies.
