Motion by Councilman Sorteberg and seconded by Councilman Reimann to approve
the minutes for the regular council meeting held on September 8, 1980.

Motion carried. Voting yes-Mayor Gamec, Councilmen Sorteberg, Reimann,
Mickelson and Cox. Voting no-None.

NOTE BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS

The minutes for the special Park and Recreation Commission meeting dated
September ll, 1980 were noted.

LETTERS AND COMMUNICATIONS

The letters and communications enclosed in the agenda were noted.

STAFF REPORTS

The staff reports enclosed in the agenda were noted.

COUNCIL OLD BUSINESS

1) House Size to Consider Revision of City Code 170.01~I (62 Section VIII
(City Ordinance Revision #80-6 revised-June !6, 1980)

Councilman Sorteberg said he would.not comment:.or Mote on this issue.

Councilman Reimann said he thought the city should try to conform with the
sizes of the houses that are already in the areas if there was some way
this could be written in the present ordinance. He felt it was not fair to
the people in developments with larger size houses for people to come in with
smaller type houses.

Building Official Berg stated there has been 13 permits issued for houses
that did not conform to the old ordinance. This was 13 out of 25 permits
issued since the ordinance was changed. The permits were for Sorteberg
Addition and Countryside Estates, one in High Point, one in Peltzers and
one in Menkvelds. Three of them were for 1,092 sq. ft. and the one in
High Point was for 960 sq. ft. houses. He said he hasn't had any other
complaint than the one concerning the house in High Point.

Councilman Cox said he didn't have any problem with the sizes of houses
in the new ordinance or with the areas where there is no development yet.
However, he thought there should be a garage required in the ~reas where
there is a development already there. He said he was not for getting a lot
of new residential development because it might affect commercial and
industrial development.

Motion by Councilman Cox to change the ordinance to add a garage requirement
to the 960 sq. ft. Rambler.

Motion died for lack of a second.

Mayor Gamec said the city got the prices of the houses down to the $50,000
range by not requiring garages. He suggested going back to the old ordinance
rather than changing the garage requirement in the new ordinance.

C/October 28, 1980
Page 3
