Councilmember Johns introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: RESOLUTION #17-01-019 RESOLUTION TO HIRE PAID-ON-CALL FIREFIGHTERS WHEREAS, over the course of 2016 there have been several Paid-on-call Firefighters that have separated from the Fire Department due to retirements and other reasons; and WHEREAS, staffing levels in the Fire Department were less full capacity; and WHEREAS, a firefighter orientation meeting was held followed by interviews, background checks, reference checks, physical agility tests, work-style assessments, and pre- employment physicals and drug screens; and WHEREAS, seven candidates have successfully passed the requirements to become a city of Ramsey Paid-on-call Firefighter; and WHEREAS, eligible candidates will be subject to a 1-year probationary period; and WHEREAS, the funding to hire the above mentioned firefighters is included in the 2017 budget and per the Joint Powers Agreement with the City of Nowthen,the City will be reimbursed for a portion of the salaries if applicable to Station 43. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, 1) Motion to approve resolution 417-01-019, hiring Levi Dargis, Justin Hovorka, Michael Jordan, Ramon Murillo-lbarra, Dillon Schmidt, Seth Seymour and Marie Turner as Paid- on-call Firefighters at $14.50 per hour effective January 11, 2017. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember Shryock, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Mayor Strommen Councilmember Johns Councilmember Shryock Councilmember Kuzma Councilmember Riley Councilmember Williams and the following voted against the same: None
