2. Public Safety Supplement -

Mayor Gamec noted that 3/4 policeman is budgeted for and stated that
when hiring of a person is anticipated, the City tries to accumulate
one year's wages forthat particular person prior to hiring of that
person.

Councilmember Reimann recalled that a request for an additional policeman
was submitted last year but that ho bequest has been before the
Personnel committee this year.

Chief of Police Auspos stated that this additional officer will not
reduce crime in Ramsey but will give the City 24 hour coverage.
Stated that he recommended at a budget meeting that efforts be made
to allow for at least 3/4 of a man in order to get to the position
where the City can hire~ Mr. Auspos stated that he doesn't consider
this an addition to the force, but rather a fulfillment of the force.

Mr. Schnelle stated .that the reason this issue did not get as far as
the Personnel committee is that this addition to the force is not
planned for another 1~-2 years; at that point it will be brought
before the Personnel committee. It probably should have been brought
to the attention of the Personnel committee at this time and that
is more of an administrative problem than an error on the Chief's part.

Motion by Councilmember Van Wagner and seconded by Councilmember Reimann
to adopt Resolution #83-175 approving the Public Safety Supplement to
the 1984 City Total Budget.
