The responsible authority shall <br />provide copies of the private data upon request by fl~e individual subject of the <br />data. The cost of providing copies shall be borne by the individual. <br /> <br /> The responsible ~uthodty shall comply immediately, if possible, with any <br />request made pursuant to this subdivision, or Mthin five ~ys of the date or the <br />request, excluding Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays, if immediate compliance <br />is not possible. If he cannot comply v.Sth the request within that time, he shall so <br />inform the individual, and may have an additional five days witkin which to comply <br />with the request, excluding Saturdays, Sundays ~d legal holiday[. <br /> <br /> Subd. 4. An individual may contest the accuracy or completeness of public <br />or private data concerning himself. To exercise this right, an in~vidual shall notify <br />in writing the responsible authority describing the nature of the disagreement. The <br />responsible authority shall within 30 days either: (a) correct the data fonnd to be <br />inaccurate or incomplete and attempt to notify past recipients of .inaccurate or <br /> r ~ notify the <br />incomplete data, including recipients named by the in,Ii, dual; or xb; <br />individual that he believes the data to be. correct. Data in dispute ~:fll be disclosed <br />cnly if the individual's statement of disagreement is includt..d with the disclosed <br />data. <br /> <br /> The determinalJon of the responsible authority may be appealed pursuant to <br />the provisions of the administrative procedure act relating tO contested cases. <br /> <br /> I5.166 CIVIL PENALTIES. Subdivision 1.. Notwiths. tanding section 466.03, <br />a political subdivision_responsible authority or state agency which violates any pro- <br />vision of sections ! 5..~2 tc ! 52 ~7! 15.1611 to 15.1698 is liable to a person who <br />suffers any damage as a result of the violation, and the person damaged may bring <br />an action against the polit*,cal subdivision, responsible authority, state'vide system <br />or state agency to cover any damages sustained, plus costs and reasonable attorney <br />fees.
