TO: City Administrator

FROM: Building Official

RE: Monthly Report

DATE: January 18, 1980

Permit issuance for the past six and one-half weeks has been practically
nothing with no houses. Scheduled inspections have been slow so I have
spent much of my time estimating the percentages of completion as well as
trying to clean up old files.

During the week of January 7th I spent three days at the annual Building
Officials School in Minneapolis. Several of the sessions were very good.
Three hours were spent on heating with wood which was excellent.

During the week of January 14th I spent two days at school in Maplewood
for Mini-Auditors and qualified for n~r State Certification which I will
receive in about two months. I will prepare a follow up report on this
item in more detail.

Total construction for 1979 was considerably less than 1978 as antici-
pated. There were 90 housing starts which is only 36% of 1978 with a total
valuation of $6.27 million, approximately 50% of 1978. It appears that
things will not improve in 1980.

Permits issued mileage and inspections are as follows:

Permits Issued

Permit Fee Valuation Surcharge

A. Additions 1 $68~00 $16~000.00 $8.00
B. Garages 2 36.00 6,000.00 3.00
C. Fireplace/Chimney 3 20.00 2,000.00 1.50

Totals 5 $124.00 $24~000.00 $12.50

Mileage and Inspections:

Inspections 160
Mileage 1300
