Chairman Peterson informed the Volner's that the main concern wi~h his
proposal is the size in a residential area and asked if he would be willing
to consider going to a smaller size greenhouse.

Mr. Volner said he would consider reducing the size, but not too small.

Chairman Peterson explained the present ordinance on accessory buildings
and that the allowable size is 624 square feet. "

Mr. Volner stated that he would like it bigger than that because the cost
of heating it in the winter time was so costly that they almost have to
have enough room to grow enough plants to have on hand for his wife to sell
so that they don't have to run into the expense of purchasing plants.

Art Dunn cautioned the Volners that they may incur a problem getting
natural gas for an operatioq of'this typ~.

Mr. Volner said he had not checked it out yet, so if that is the case he
may have to look at another heat source.

Ron West asked if this is a temporary or permanent structure since it is being
constructed with 2 X 4's and if the plastic would come down each year.

Mr. Volner said he planned on-having the type that~wouldbe-~up-~for some~.time .....

Ron West noted that this structure would require a building permit and
it would have to receive the approval of the building official as far as
meeting structural code etc.

Art Dunn questioned the roof being able to take the snow load.

Ron West replied that most green houses are made today of metal tubi.ng.

Ben Deemer added that metal tubing would be more temporary and would be
easier to assemble and disassemble than nailing 2 x 4's together.

Chairman Peterson asked if they would be willing to go with a size of no
more than 624 square feet_on 2~ acres or less as the ordinance stipulates.

Mr. Volner indicated if that is what the ordinance says, than that is what
be'will make it.

Kathleen Schneider noted that she is under the impression that at 624 square
feet it will be quite a bit l~rger than what would be acceptable by. the
ne~ighbors.

Mrs. Stulc~ stated that they did not want to infringe on his legal r~ights.

Mrs. Berger said their main concern is that it does not become another eyesore.

Ron West questioned if Mr. ¥olner would paint it white for appearances.

planning & Zoning Commission
R~gular Meeting/l~7-80/P.age 2
