<br /> EARTH SHELTERED HOUSING CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION

<br /> CONFERENCE
<br />The focus of this conference and exhibition is
<br />HOUSING, both single and multi-family. Major con-
<br />ference presentations will primarily consist of
<br />selected papers and praclical sessions. Technical
<br />sessions will include research exploring such
<br />issues as heat transfer, building codes, and at-
<br />tiludes about living in earth-sheltered homes.
<br />Practical sessions will provide experiential, hands-
<br />on advice on insulalin~j, waterproofing, financing,
<br />elc. Master Classes will provide an opportunity 1o
<br />consult with a "master" (an experienced ar-
<br />chilect, engineer or builder) on earth-sheltered
<br />building plans. These sessions in combination With
<br />tours of earlh-sheltered buildings and time spent in
<br />the exhibit hall, will bring you the Underground
<br />Space Cenler's most comprehensive earth-
<br />sheqered housing program to date.
<br /> EXHIBITION
<br />For the first time anywhere, an earth-sheltered
<br />housing EXHIBITION will be held to provide an op-
<br />portunity for architects, engineers, contractors
<br />
<br />and suppliers to display their products or services
<br />relaled in any way to earth-sheltered construclion.
<br />The exhibition will be held'at The Leamington dur-
<br />ing the conference: it will be open free .to all
<br />registrants and to the interested public for an ad-
<br />mission fee.
<br />AND ANNOUNCING: A DESIGN COMPETITION
<br />Small, Earth Sheltered Residential Community
<br />in cooperation with fhe Minneapolis Public
<br />Schools, a real competition site has been chosen
<br />to represent a typical school site that might be
<br />vacated (flat two-block area, bordered by a park).
<br />Designs should be for moderate income housing.
<br />Project could become reality on lhe site chosen
<br />but that decision would be independent of the
<br />competition.
<br />Entry lee: nominal. Winners to be announced and
<br />all designs displayed a't lhe conference; selected
<br />designs to be published in ARCHITECTURE MIN-
<br />NESOTA, the official conference program.
