The slides were presented to the Council. <br /> <br />Mr. Carson said regarding the houses he built with no garages, most of the <br />people built a garage within two years after the houses were built. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec said in Brooklyn Center, many houses were built without garages <br />and after three years almost every house had a garage. <br /> <br />Mr. West said the cost of a garage could make a difference in people buying <br />or not buying. ~ <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec asked what problems there are. <br /> <br />Mr. West said if the city should make a decision to do this, it would get <br />complaints from people already in the city who have built larg.er homes. <br /> <br />Ms. Schneider said she felt there should be some way to control the building <br />of a garage and she felt people would complain about nO garages. <br /> <br />Mr. Carson said the people who will buy in the area with big houses probably <br />will not spend money for a lot there and build a small house on it without <br />a garage. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec said he thought the Council should go-ahead and schedule a public' <br />hearing now and in the meantime the Council could look at the advantages and <br />disadvantages of the issue. <br /> <br />Mr. West said the scheduling of a public hearing should be done very soon. <br />He said he felt the first reaction he would get would probably be that this <br />is a mobile-home type development.and he would have to cross that barrier by <br />letting the people know that this is not a prefab-type housing. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec told Mr. West to make a presentation to the Planning & Zoning <br />Commission at their meeting on the 2nd of June and he suggested scheduling <br />the public hearing for the 16th of June. <br /> <br />Mr. West said in order to work with the federal Programs, he would have to <br />build a house on a lot for under $55,000. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilman Sortebe.rg'and seconded by Councilman Reimann to hold <br />a public hearing on the 16th of June, 1980. on the smaller-type housing <br />for the City of Ramsey. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting yes-Mayor Gamec, Councilmen Sorteberg, Reimann and <br />Cox. Voting no-None. <br /> <br />CABLE TV - JOINT POWERS AGREEMENT <br /> <br />City Administrator Schnelle said the Joint Powers Committee need a law <br />firm to research out the State laws regardingthe.joint powers ~agreement <br />and the $1,000 maximum cost to the law firm would be split three ways <br />between Anoka, Champlin and Ramsey.
