PW CASE

UPDATE ON WATER TOWER NO. 2
(IMPROVEMENT PROJECT #99-64)
By: Steve Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:

Staff has met with AEC Engineering to initiate the design work on the elevated tank. Since this
particular water utility improvement will require the most time to complete, 23 months according
to the schedule submitted with the proposal, we feel it is important to avoid any delays. As a
measure to accomplish this, staff would like to have AEC make a brief presentation to the
Committee. In addition to the goal of familiarizing the Committee with the water tower project
and answering general questions, staff would like to cover the following issues:

1. Present the Committee with the general styles of water towers that are available. There may
be some styles that the Committee may not wish to consider due to aesthetics, or the
Committee may have a strong preference for a certain style.
2. Present the Committee with an overview of the water tower options that are available and
their general costs. These might include logos, cathodic protection against corrosion, aircraft
warning lighting, etc.
3. Finally, we would like to present the Committee with an overview of the lengthy project
schedule, and discuss the pros and cons of including an incentive for early completion into
the contract documents.

Included with this agenda is a packet of informational material put together by AEC
Engineering.

Committee Action:

Provide direction to the designer in response to issues listed above.

Reviewed by:

City Administrator
Director of Public Works
Parks/Utilities Supervisor

PW: 02/15/00
