PW CASE #

UPDATE ON WATER TOWER NO. 2
By Steven Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:

On Monday May 15, 2000, staff will be meeting with AEC Engineering to review the Project
Procedures Manual which is the first deliverable document under our contract with this firm for
the design and specifications for water tower No 2. We anticipate bringing the plan and
specifications to the City Council for bidding on May 23, 2000, and an award date of June 27,
2000. A review of direction given to the consultant earlier in the year was as follows:

1)

2)
3)

Bids should allow for a water spheroid (the style of the existing Ramsey tower) and the
hydropillar style (the style used by Champlin).
A three-color painting scheme might be anticipated.
Bids should be received for two completion dates: Late Fall 2001 and early Summer
2001. The Council can then evaluate the cost of completion in order to have the tank
serviceable to meet the demands of Summer 2001.

If as a result of the Monday review with AEC, there are any decisions necessary to finalize the
plans and specifications, City staff would present those issues to the committee.

Committee Action:

Based on outcome of AEC Project Procedures Manual review.

Reviewed by:

City Engineer
Director of Public Works
Parks/Utilities Supervisor

PW: 05/16/00

G:lusersiCily Shared FilelPWCommitteel2OOOht4ayhtpdate water tower#2.doc 05/12/00
