,~r,e 2fi, ]020

Mr. Lloyd Schnell, City Administrator
Ramsey City Hall
Ramsey, Minnesota

Dear Mr. Schnell:

This letter is to express our concern about a problem we have Been having with ?~
frequent visits to our yard by a herd of pigs. In late fall of 1978 we chased
two pigs back to a fenced-in area owned By Dan Laws.

In 1979 pigs from this herd gave us the displeasure of their company 4 times. The
fourth time we came home on a Sunday evening in early September after Being
gone for the weekend. Pigs had almost totally demolished our vegetable garden and
destroyed most of our flower Beds. The lawn was trampled and required several
hours of work to restore it to a reasonable condition. Manure was evident in
various places and had to be cleaned up.

We visited Dan Laws that evening but were unable to get any useful information
from him. We called the police who were very cordial and understanding. The
officers said they would get in touch with the owner and get Back to us.
On Monday I came home from work and the pigs were still out. I again called
the police and found out the attempts to contact the owner hadn't been successful.
We had spent most of Sunday and Monday evenings chasing the pigs from our yard.
At one point the boar had to be convinced to leave with a very sturdy 2 X 4.

Police officers came out to our house on numerous occasions during this pork
spree. We were assured a number of times that someone would get back to us and
let us know what was the outcome of this hog escapade. Noone came to give us
any information and when I called the city hall to find out what had happened,
I was told that whoever could help me was out.

On Tuesday, June 17, 1980 some pigs again made their presence known. We called
the police and. in the meantime sent them on their way. Officer Anderson
came to our house twice during the evening in response to our calls. The pigs
(their numbers kept increasing throughout the evening) had to be chased
away quite a few times during that evening. Wednesday evening we noticed
damage had been done ~o one of our flower beds. O~ of our neighbors had noticed
a cou~e of pigs at our place that day.

We feel we have been quite patient throughout all this. We have no objection
to anyone raising pigs in the area, however,.we do not appreciate these pigs
running through our yard and damaging our lawn and gardens.

Also, between the pig lot and our
Many children play in the park.
hurt a small child.

place is the park for Ramsey' Terrace.
An antagonized pig or pigs could seriously

It is our hope that by bringing this to your attention this problem can be
resolved. Please feel free to contact us if you wish more information on this
matter. Also, we have taken pictures· of some of the d~=ge caused by the last
2 episodes.

Respectful, //~

14249 Junkite Street N.W.
Home phone: 421-9455 A1 at work: 333-1515
