(2) <br /> <br />The exact language of this provision is quoted below. <br /> <br />M~S. 626.84, Subd. 2. Scope° Notwithstanding sections 12.03, <br />subdivision 4, 12.25, or any other law to the contrary, no individual <br />employed or acting as an agent of any political subdivision shall <br />be authorized to carry a firearm when on duty unless the individual <br />has been licensed pursuant to sections 626.84 to 626.855. Nothing <br />herein shall be construed as requiring licensure of a security <br />guard as that term is defined in section 626.88, subdivision 1, <br />clause (c). <br /> <br />The quoted language also appears to nullify the 1979 provision which permitted <br />police chiefs and sherrifs to arm reserve officers during emergencies. <br /> <br />Questions on this situation can be directed to me or Joel Jamnik at the League <br />or to Mark Shields at the POST Board at 296-2620. <br /> <br />SP:rmm <br />7/10/80 <br /> <br /> <br />
