I. INTRODUCTION

The existing gas migration control system constructed in 1977 consists of
a series of 15 gas control wells located in native soil along the west peri-
meter of the refuse-filled area. The 25- to 3D-foot-deep wells are connected
to a hmader pipe system of four- to eight-inch diameter PVC pipes installed
approximately three feet below the ground surface. A suction motor blower is
installed in an equipment building and withdraws about 1200 cubic feet per
minute from the collection pipes. The system exhausts to the atmosphere
through a vertical PVC pipe. A muffler had been installed at-the top of the
pipe to reduce noise.
