Anoka-Ramsey Meeting- Feb. 27, 1969 <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 8:00 p.m.~ at the Tec.. Center by the <br />Chairman of the Ramsey Township Taxpayers Association, Mr.. Sanders. <br />Ther will be two more meetings on Mar.. 13 and Mar~ 27. Mr. Elvig, Mr. <br />Gesko and others will provide the answers for tonight's meeting and <br />then at 'the next meeting the positive and negative sides of the ques- <br />tion of Annexation will be taken up. Taxpayers Association has been <br />officially recognized as legal arm of the Town Board. <br />ANOKA FINANCE <br /> <br />Ko. 1 "What is the bonded indebtedness of Anoka now?" <br /> <br />$9,000,000 assessed valuation. 20% is legal for bonding. They are now <br />bonded for ~250,O00 of 2/~ of their legal limito. <br /> <br />No. 2 a:' "Is Anoka looking for more valuation to enable them to float <br />more bonds? '~ <br /> <br />They now have debt of ~1,250,OOO or 2/~ of their debt limit at present <br />time. <br /> <br /> b. "By annexing ~amsey, won't Anoka float more bonds and i~crease <br />taxes even more?" <br /> <br />They did not thi~ so. <br /> <br />No~ ~ "Would the rural areas he required to. pay for Anoka's bonded in- <br />debtedness?'' <br /> <br />Ramsey Township would have to pay on Anoka's bonded indebtedness. Two <br />platted areas would be taxed the same as if it .was in Anoka but the bill <br />to exempt these two areas was i~ the legislature and had passed the full <br />committee by l:O0 o'clock today. This new bill would consider these two <br />platted areas the same as rural. No housing areas in District 3 have been <br />platted. <br /> <br />No. $ a. The <br />City of Anoka is trying to acquire 300 acres at no cost.. A new law <br />would require the state to sell state property at market value. When the <br />state acquired the hospital propemty im the £irst place the City of Anok~ <br />paid a good-sized share of the cost o£ this property and therefore they <br />feel it only fair that they should get it back at no cost to them, that is <br /> the 300 acres they need for the park. <br /> <br /> b. "A new Rum River dam." <br /> <br />Yes, Anoka is trying to get outside help to rebuild the dam. Anoka Council <br />agreed to pay ~550,OO0 for a new dam but the low bid received recently <br />was $671,000. Anoka feels the county sko. uld particiDate i5 the cost of <br />this dam because it is canoe route from Princeton to Anoka.. They feel <br />the state should also participate'because many police and. fire calls are <br /> <br /> <br />
