By 2040, seniors are <br /> expected to comprise 20% of the population and people of color will comprise 40%. <br /> As the population increases, diversifies, and ages, demand for easily accessible <br /> outdoor recreation opportunities and open space increases. <br /> The outdoor recreational use patterns in the metropolitan area have also been <br /> growing steadily. Recreational visits to Anoka County regional parks and trails have <br /> increased from approximately 2.7 million visits in 2005 to over 3.4 million in 2015.2 <br /> Visitation to Mississippi West Regional Park increased from 158,800 in 2012 to almost <br /> 200,000 in 2015 after the construction of the boat launch.3 The additional <br /> development within the park, is anticipated to meet the future demands of the public. <br /> The community <br /> engagement Amenity/Activity Use Survey Results <br /> process revealed <br /> the importance of Hiking 1 218 <br /> trails, as hiking and Picnic Areas 184 <br /> biking were two of Biking 121 <br /> Swimming 120 <br /> the top three Fishing 79 <br /> preferred uses in the Playgrounds 70 <br /> parks as shown byCamping � 8 <br /> the survey results in Canoeing & Kayaking 32 <br /> Figure 5.
