City of #17
RAMSEY
Mayors for Monarchs
Ramsey's Mayor Sarah Strommen is taking the Mayors for Monarchs
Pledge to support Monarch butterflies in our community. Monarchs play
an important role in pollinating many different types of plants, including
many food crops. But the Monarch population is decreasing. That is why
it is important to create special habitats for these pollinators in our yards
and gardens. You can help us spread the word by filling the Ramsey
City Hall with beautiful butterflies!
Send us your most colorful creation.
bring butterflies to
your backyard...
• Plant milkweed. Monarch caterpillars eat only
from milkweed plants. Milkweed is key to their
survival.
• Adult Monarch butterflies feed on nectar. Plant
plenty of native wildflowers, like Black-eyed Susans
and Eastern Purple Coneflowers, which will provide
nectar from spring into fall.
• Avoid using chemicals in your yard, like weed killer,
which can harm butterflies.
• Place flat stones in your garden to provide space for butterflies
to rest and bask in the sun.
Information provided by National Wildlife Federation • www.nwf.org
