CASE # /

TITTERUD PARK PLAYGROUNG REPLACEMENT
By: Mark Riverblood, Parks & Utilities Supervisor

Background:

As the Commission will recall, the City continues to replace older play equipment at a
rate of about one park per year - with new structures that meet Consumer Product Safety
Commission guidelines, as well as ADA.

For 2004, this was scheduled to be Titterud Park, with the Capital Improvement Program
showing a $55,000 allocation for replacement of the 20-year old play equiPment. The
funding is recommended to come from depreciated earrfings at $48,000, with the $7,000
balance fi'om the Park Trust Fund.

Observations:

During the September Park and Recreation Commission meeting, it was agreed that
Commissioners would look at the park to familiarize themselves with the site, and that
direction on how to proceed would be determined at October's meeting. One suggestion
was that the playground may have a unique element or theme to it - although perhaps not
as large in scope as Alpine Park's Discovery Garden.

Attached for your information are 5 digital photos of the play equipment site.

Commission Action:

Based upon discussion

Reviewed by:
Assistant Public Works Director/Principal City Engineer
Finance Officer'

P&R: 10/14/04
