COMMUNITY EDUCATION DEPARTMENT <br /> PROGRAMS AND SERVICES <br /> <br />Athletic Consultant <br /> <br />The athletic consultant plays a major role in planning adult recreation activities <br />throughout the district including volleyball, basketball, softball, football, broomball, and <br />hockey leagues. <br /> <br />In addition to adult athletics, the consultant works with youth athletic associations in <br />scheduling facilities for youth athletic events such as football, basketball, volleyball, <br />baseball, wrestling, etc. <br /> <br />Preschool and Parent Education <br /> <br />A program consultant is responsible for the overall administration of a year-long <br />preschool education program for three-and four-year olds. This program is housed at Lord <br />of Life Lutheran Church in Ramsey. <br /> <br />The consultant also administers a "Learning :Together" program for parents of preschool <br />age children and "Project PAT" (Parents Are Teachers). These two programs help parents <br />learn about child development and encourage:parents to become involved in and influence <br />their child's development through the early years. <br /> <br />Learning Together programs are rotated-among elementary schools in the district. <br />Project PAT is housed at the Anoka Area Vocational Technical School. <br /> <br /> Adult Basic and Continuing Education (AB/CE) <br /> <br />With support from the state and federal governments, our AB/CE coordinator provides <br />services to those adults who have education below the eighth grade level as well as those <br />who are interested in obtaining a high school equivalency (GED) certificate. <br /> <br />Project POWER <br /> <br />This program serves to facilitate community education classes for adults who are <br />mentally handicapped or hearing impaired, Special communications equipment is <br />available for registration and sign language :interpreters are provided for those adults in <br />need. <br /> <br />Senior Citizens <br /> <br />A special needs eoodinator works with senior citizens living in the district and helps <br />facilitate congregate dining, health services, and special outings for seniors. <br /> <br />Community Outings <br /> <br />A variety of special outings are planned for adults each year including concerts, tours, <br />field trips, and other activities in the Twin Cities area and around the state. <br /> <br /> <br />
