Case # 2
Business Park Monument Signage
By: Scan M. Sullivan, Economic Development/TIF Specialist

Background:

Staff presented sign types to the EDA on September 8, 2004 and the EDA identified 3
types of signs that they preferred. Staff was directed to research the cost involved with
the preferred signs and to present the information to the EDA. The Brock White
Company of Elk River constructed the signs selected by the EDA, and all quotes are
provided from that business.

Observations:

All of the signs are quoted with Indiana Limestone and site preparation, landscaping,
electrical and sign permits are not included in the quotes. (See Attached Quotes) The
quotes include a two-sided sign and the upcharge of going with Kasota Limestone is also
provided. The signs range in price from $9,430 to $12,765. Staff feels that it would be
beneficial to light these signs but would like direction from the EDA as to this matter.
Signs shown can be slightly modified as to color and materials but changes will add to
the cost of the sign. Brick color, stone type and the two-sided nature of the signs need to
be discussed to reach a consensus before proceeding any further. Other variables such as
sign location and verbiage should be discussed to make sure the signs achieve the desired
goals. The primary funding of the signs should come from appropriate TIF districts and
the EDA where applicable.

Recommendation:

Based on discussion

Review Checklist:
City Administrator, Jim Norman
Associate Planner, Megan Wald

EDA: 11.10.04
