CC Regular Session 4. 5.
Meeting Date: 09/26/2017
By: Mark Riverblood, Engineering/Public
Works
Information
Title
Update on Alpine Park's Baseball Field Renovation, and Approve Adding Storage Shed to Scope of Work
Purpose/Background:
In September 2016 Council authorized $75,000 from the Park Trust Fund for improvements to ballfields #3 and #4
at Alpine Park to be completed no later than 2017. Requests for quotes were issued, and awards to contractors for
the concrete elements and fencing aspects of the project, occurred in August —with the project expected to be
completed in September 2017.
The following is the cost breakdown of the ball renovation project as of case writing:
Concrete $9,620
Fencing, netting and dugouts $34,689
Hurricane straps for 8 dugouts $1,000 (est.)
Restoration (soil, sod, ag lime) $3,000 (est.)
Total approximate project cost to date: $49,309
Notification:
Public notifications on this Capital Improvement Project occurred in 2016, as part of the city-wide CIP.
Observations/Alternatives:
Recently Staff met with representatives from the Anoka Ramsey Athletic Association on the topic of Alpine Park's
renovations and other proposed improvements to athletic facilities in the next years. The outcome of this discussion
was a request by ARAA to consider adding a storage shed to the scope of work at Alpine, within the $75,000
allocation approved for improvements at the park.
The storage shed would replace the 'pod' storage unit that has been at the park for several years, and is a regular
rental expense for ARAA—and would be much nicer in appearance. Staff is confident that an acceptable shed can
be purchased and installed for less than $12,000. This amendment to the scope of work would still leave the now
larger project approximately $13,000 under the $75,000 approved by City Council for baseball related
improvements to Alpine Park.
Attached are various images of Alpine's backstops and dugouts, and pictures similar to a shed that would replace the
pod storage unit.
Funding Source:
The funding source is the perviously approved allocation of $75,000 from the Park Trust Fund.
Recommendation:
In August, the Park and Recreation Commission recommended adding the storage shed to the scope of work as
proposed and detailed above.
Action:
