Ramsey recently underwent a Public Protection Classification (PPC) survey by the
Insurance Services Office (ISO). ISO uses this to evaluate fire departments in the United States.
Based on this evaluation, ISO assigns the fire department a rating between 1 and 10; 1 being the
best. This rating reflects the overall effectiveness of the department and helps determine the fire
insurance premiums for property owners in that department's jurisdiction.
The ISO rating considers three main areas of a community's fire suppression system: emergency
communications, fire department (including operational considerations), and water supply. In
addition, it includes a Community Risk Reduction section that recognizes community efforts to
reduce losses through fire prevention, public fire safety education, and fire investigation. After
the recent PPC survey,Ramsey's classification rating for its hydrant area was lowered to a 4! This
has been Ramsey's lowest rating to date and will go into effect December 1, 2017. Check with
your home insurance agent to inquire how this improvement to Ramsey's ISO rating may impact
your insurance rate. Attached to the Weekly Update is a letter from ISO indicating the results of
the recent Public Protection Classification (PPC)Survey.
Mayor for a Day Essay Contest.
